Handling Overwhelm: What to Do When Your Dream Job Isn't So Dreamy
I know what you’re thinking, “Kim aren’t you Mrs. Dream Catcher yourself? Mrs. Always-Go-For-Your-Dreams?”
Yes, yes I am…. but I’m here to tell you… your dream job isn’t always to dreamy.
Life isn’t always perfect. You’re going to have good days and bad days. Sometimes your dream job can feel like a nightmare!
Like when you get a client that ask you to do something that you know is going to be horrifically ugly, but they won’t budge on what they think is right even though they came to you as the expert in the first place. (Sorry some scenarios call for an incredibly long run-on sentence to emphasize how ANNOYING they are. Can I get an AMEN?!?!?!?!)
So what gives? How can you live the life of your dreams without it being the life of your dreams?
This, it brings me to a scripture that’s always relevant “Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS, and again, I say rejoice” Phillipians 4:4
As Christians first, and business owners far down the line of importance, we’ve been called to find joy in all things and be thankful even in the hard times.
I liken this to my relationship with my lovie Brandon. He is 100% without a shadow of a doubt, the love of my life and a perfect partner for me.
Scream…I said…not leave. I’d never just quit on the perfect man for me because he has imperfect moments. That’s just life…
Like with your significant other and anything in life worthwhile, in your dream job, there will be tough moments.
There will be times that we want to quit. There will be circumstances that feel so heavy that it will almost break us.
Those are the moments when you remember Phillipians 4:4 and find something to rejoice about. There’s always something to be grateful for and to learn from in every situation.
Sound easier said than done? Let me break it down.
Stress in your dream business means:
A. You have a job/client.
B. You’re making money.
C. Someone found you valuable enough to ask to do a task.
D. Although you might not love the moment, you are still getting to do something that you love. #BOOM
That’s right, you should welcome stress because it’s an indicator that God is working in your life and in your business. As long as that moment of difficulty doesn’t break you, it really will make you that much stronger. (Okay, cue “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson – I LOVE her!)
So let’s say a quick prayer asking for guidance in the hard times shall we? Read along out loud or in your heart.
“Thank you Lord, for guiding my steps and being my refuge I owe you everything I have and everything I do. I’m so blessed. Father, please help me to watch my thoughts as I strive to be a worker for you in the kingdom. Help me to see the opportunity in upsets and the lesson in the loss. May I rely upon you in those moments… in Jesus’ name, Amen”
As always, I will be praying for you as you go through the ups and downs of having your own business and ask that you pray for me. Until next time…
Be blessed and be a blessing!

Think Tank Assignment
(You take the girl out of the school, but you can’t take that school out of the girl!)
So, here’s a quick assignment for you. Name one frustrating thing in your business, and then tell me one way you can rejoice about it. It might be difficult at first, but if you keep practicing, it will save you a lot of heartache.
