Do You Have What It Takes To Be An Entrepreneur?
August 11, 2015

It’s always interesting when I tell people that I’m an entrepreneur.  Usually, they love the idea of it, then they immediately tell me that starting a business is not for them.  I often used to wonder why.  After asking several people, I’ve concluded that many people are afraid of entrepreneurship.

Most people say, “I’m not the business type.”  Or, they might even say, “I’ve never really desired to have my own business.”

Initially, these concerns make perfect sense.  Especially if you aren’t a real outgoing person.  But if you really look deeper at the situation, you realize that it might be all in the way you look at it.   Answer these questions with honesty.

Do you love working on someone else’s schedule?

Does it just thrill you to use your skills to make money for someone else on a daily basis?

Is it awesome having someone tell you if you can or can’t go to a family member’s wedding or funeral?

If you answer “no” to any of the the above questions, you might want to reconsider if you were made to be an entrepreneur.  As a former teacher, it was a blessing and a curse.  You get to love on children all day long, but the only problem is they aren’t YOUR children.

I got tired of asking if I could stay home with my sick daughter or nervously awaiting consent to take my son to his dentist appointment.  I wasn’t making enough money to have all those restrictions!

To be honest, I’ve always toyed around with the thought of being an entrepreneur.  Then one day, I thought about all the things that I wanted to do, see, and be in the world and realized how restricting my current situation was to doing any of those things.  That’s when I knew that I NEEDED to be an entrepreneur, and you might need to as well.

How many of you get asked on a weekly basis to bake those delicious cakes you are known for around the office?  How many of you plan all the company parties?  How many karaoke parties do we rock the mic just to go back to answering phones on Monday?

Enough is enough!  We all have special skills.  It’s time to get PAID for them!

Let me be clear.  Entrepreneurship isn’t a cakewalk.  It’s HARD work!  However, it’s also a chance to make your own schedule, create your own work environment, determine your own pay scale and impact the world in your own way. Sound too good to be true?  I live it every day.  I even made a Confession Friday post on Facebook last week about how awesome it was to work in bed.  Entrepreneurship is the life!

All I’m saying is, the next time someone asks you if you ever want to start a business, don’t be so quick to dismiss them and say it isn’t for you.  It’s okay to look them straight in the eye and say, “You know what, you just might be on to something.”  because they actually really might!  This world needs more of what you have and we’ll never get it if you play small.  Is it hard?  Very.  Is it crazy? Often.  Is it scary?  Daily.  Is it worth it? Every second.

As always, I’m here to help and would love to walk you through how to get started.  If you are seriously interested, Click Here to success plan to get your dream business going.

Today’s Think Tank:

Today’s Think Tank is fun!  I just want you to dream.  I want you finish this sentence, “If money wasn’t an object and I couldn’t fail, I would be a ____________”.  There’s no judgement here.  Only love and support.  Tell us what’s on your heart, I’m sure there are more just like you.  We all could use a little support.  I’ll continue to pray for your entrepreneurship journey and ask that you do the same for me.  Be blessed and be a blessing!

XOXO,

Kim
