How to Get Clarity in Decision-Making
September 30, 2016

Anyone ever had trouble with decision-making? Like you know you need to make some sort of decision, but have no idea what you are going to do?  I’ll raise my hand high on this one because I have definitely been there!

My husband and I were trying to decide if it was time for me to make a career move.  We had been thinking about it for a while, but the opportunity came up and we had to decide if now was the right time or not.

Like most logical people, we sat and weighed out the pros and cons of the situation, and by golly, they were equal!  What!?!  What are you supposed to do with that?  We were literally stumped!

Then, a conversation with my dad, who is a minister, helped us clear up the whole delima, and I think it will help you too.  He told me exactly how I can get clarity in any situation that I am dealing with.

He called it using God’s AAA (Triple A) Card.

Have you ever heard of the service AAA?  If not, it originally was a service designed to be of motor assistance when you are in need of help.  For example, if you are stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire, your membership will allow you to call AAA for roadside assistance and receive help.

My dad’s theory was, as a child of God, you automatically have a membership to God’s AAA and are able to receive it’s benefits in times of need. So, what exactly does this mean?

Here are 3 steps to Using God’s AAA Card To Gain Clarity:

Step 1: Acknowledge

Acknowledge to the Lord that you need His help in the whatever it is that you are dealing with.  Allow Him to be the one that makes the decision for you and place all of your own agendas aside.  Allow Him and His spirit (the Holy Spirit) to come and lead the way.

Layman’s Terms: Pray to the Lord and ask Him to reign and for you to get out of your own way.  For my situation,  I prayed that I didn’t do what I wanted, but what God wanted and needed me to do.

Step 2: Ask

Come to the Lord and ask Him about whatever it is that you stand in need of help with.  He hears you.

Layman’s Terms: Talk to God in your prayer about your decision that you need help with.  Tell Him your fears and worries.  Ask for faith to trust His decision.  Again, for me, I prayed about making the right choice for my family, fear of the unknown, and being sure in my decision to leave a secure income.

Step 3: Abide

Walk with the Lord and look for His answer.  There are clues all around you.  Words from trusted loved ones, messages from unexpected sources, but most importantly, your own Spirit.  There’s something to following your gut.  If you’ve asked the Lord to guide you, it’s not just a gut feeling.  It’s the Holy Spirit guiding your Spirit in the direction that you need.

Layman’s Terms: If you ask, God will answer.  Keep searching for His answer and in the end, you will know.  You will feel it.  It turned out, that God used my husband to answer my question.  He came to me and said, “Kim, it’s time for you to follow your passion and pursue what God has placed in your heart.”  Then, the most amazing thing happened… I knew.

The minute my husband said it, it was like I had permission to breathe.  I felt more relaxed.  I felt joy and excitement.  I just knew that it was the right decision for me.  Funny thing is, it wasn’t my husband.  As much as I love and honor him, I knew that it was God using him to confirm His decision for my future.  I could literally FEEL it.

Quick Recap: God’s AAA = Ask, Acknowledge, and Abide in Him

God’s AAA has never failed me, and I know that it won’t fail you.

The best part is, whenever I get anxious, I remind myself that this decision wasn’t mine.  It was the Lord’s, so He must know that I’ll be just fine.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have led me to it, which brings me to one of my favorite verses in Phllipians 4:6-7:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Look dreamers, don’t get stuck trying to live this life on your own accord.  Allow God to reign, even if He hasn’t in a while, He won’t turn His back on you. He’s support you and lead to the best decision for Him and for you.  It’s a win-win.  Let the church say AMEN and let it be so!!!

Today’s Think Tank:

So what is it?  What’s been on your mind that you are needing clarity on?  Please share.  I’d love to pray for you in any way that I can or send you encouraging words.

Or, have you already received clarity?  Tell us what worked for you!  Remember that your victory could lead someone else to theirs, so share away!

As always, I’ll continue to pray for your journey and ask that you pray for mine.  Until we meet again with more clarity, BE BLESSED AND BE A BLESSING!

XOXO,

Kim
